Do you participate in my insurance?
Please refer to the insurance portion of this website.

Will I need pre-testing before my surgery?
Yes, depending on your health condition, you may need pre-operative testing. This will be determined by your surgeon and anesthesiologist prior to your surgery.

Why do I need a photo ID?
Photo ID's are required to confirm your identity.

Do I need a driver?
You will not be allowed to drive the day of your surgery. We strongly urge you not to drive for at least 24 hours after surgery. Depending on the type of surgery you had you may be prohibited from driving for a longer period of time. Time frames are decided by your surgeon, type of surgery, and the type of medication you are taking. Specific instructions will be given to you at discharge.

Can my driver leave the center while I am in surgery?
We request that your escort remain at the center until you are ready to leave.  It is acceptable if they have a short trip (i.e. refreshments, errand) to make and will return immediately.   If your driver leaves the center, we must have a phone number they can be reached at.

What kind of surgery do you perform?
Any elective surgery that is approved by Medicare or your insurance company that can be done on an outpatient basis not requiring an overnight stay.

What kind of anesthesia will I receive?
This depends on the procedure you are having done. Your surgeon and the anesthesiologist will talk to you and decide what the best anesthesia is for you.

How long will I be there on the day of surgery?
Most outpatient surgeries require a 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hour stay. In some cases, you may be here longer depending on the surgery you have had.

Will my family members be allowed in the Pre-op or recovery area?
For the privacy of all patients, one family member will be allowed in the recovery area. Two parents or relatives of a child (age 17 and under) may accompany the child to Pre-op. When the child goes to the operating room the parent will return to the waiting room. When the child is awake parents can then go to the post operative recovery area.

Will the doctor speak to my family when the procedure is over?
The doctor will come to the waiting room area and speak to a family member if they are present.

Can I wear my dentures during my procedure?
If you are having a general anesthetic, we will request that you remove your dentures just prior to entering the operating room and they will be given back to you as soon as you are awake.  This is due to the possibility of bending or breakage during your procedure when you will not be able to protect the dentures.  If you are having straight local anesthesia, you may keep your dentures intact.

Why do I have to remove all my jewelry before surgery?
During your procedure, your surgeon may use an electrocautery device (Bovie) that allows rapid control of bleeding and tissue biopsies.  This device uses electricity that, if it conducts through your metallic jewelry, may cause a burn.  For this reason, we ask that you leave all jewelry at home.

What and when will I be able to eat?
After your procedure specific instructions will be given to you. During your recovery period, you will be offered some light snacks.  You may resume eating as soon as you feel up to it.  We recommend starting with light foods, such as toast or soup, and then gradually working up to larger and spicier meals.

Why can't I eat or drink anything after midnight prior to my surgery?
Depending on your surgeon’s instructions, you must remain "nothing by mouth" from midnight so that your stomach is empty. Contents in the stomach with administered anesthesia can cause vomiting with potential aspiration into the lungs.  Failure to do so may result in cancellation of your surgery.

When will I know my arrival time?
Schedules are coordinated with the physician’s office ahead of time. A nurse will call you 1-2 days before your surgery with your arrival time.  If you do not receive a call by 2 p.m. the day before your surgery, please call (352) 527-1825.

Will I be asleep and will it hurt?
General anesthesia patients do not hear or feel anything. If you have conscious sedation you will be kept comfortable by the anesthesiologist. If you become aware they will give you additional medication.

How soon can I go back to work?
Your return to work will be determined by your surgeon. This is something you need to discuss with him/her.
