Medications for Heart, Blood Pressure, Breathing, Seizures and Parkinson’s Disease should be taken on the day of surgery with a few sips of water.  DO NOT take any diabetic medication on day of surgery.

Please bathe or shower before coming to the Surgery Center.  Do not use lotions or oil after bathing.  Remove all make-up, nail polish, or hairpieces.  Please leave all jewelry at home.  We cannot be responsible for lost items.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as a sweat suit, an easy to button shirt or blouse, or elastic waist shorts or pants.

A nurse will give you a gown to change into.  You will be given a garment bag to store your clothing in before you are escorted to the operating room.
You will be asked to sign a consent form for your operation.  If the patient is under 18, the parent or legal guardian must accompany the child and sign the consent form.

Your family or friend will be asked to wait in the front lobby area.  They will be able to rejoin you in the recovery area after you have awaken.  Confirm your transportation arrangements with them.  You cannot drive yourself home.

Day After Surgery

Before leaving the Recovery Room, you will be given a Discharge Instruction Sheet with simple, written guidelines to continue your home care.

If you have any questions or problems after discharge, please contact your doctor.

A nurse from the Surgery Center will phone you within 24-48 hours after surgery to see how you are and to answer any questions you might have.

We encourage you to complete the patient questionnaire given to you upon discharge after you have recovered from surgery.  This will help us with your follow-up and to improve our service.
