Surgery Information
Day Before Surgery Arrival Time: A nurse will call you 1-2 days before your surgery with your arrival time. If you do not receive a call by 2 p,m, the day before your surgery, please call the surgery center at (352) 527-1825. Eating and Drinking: The night before your surgery, eat a light meal. Do not eat or drink anything after 12 midnight the night before your procedure unless your doctor has advised you differently. Failure to follow these rules may result in cancellation of your surgery. Transportation: You will need to make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home. Taxi’s are not acceptable.
Day of Surgery Please bring with you:
Medications for Heart, Blood Pressure, Breathing, Seizures and Parkinson’s Disease should be taken on the day of surgery with a few sips of water. DO NOT take any diabetic medication on day of surgery. Please bathe or shower before coming to the Surgery Center. Do not use lotions or oil after bathing. Remove all make-up, nail polish, or hairpieces. Please leave all jewelry at home. We cannot be responsible for lost items. Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as a sweat suit, an easy to button shirt or blouse, or elastic waist shorts or pants. A nurse will give you a gown to change into. You will be given a garment bag to store your clothing in before you are escorted to the operating room. Your family or friend will be asked to wait in the front lobby area. They will be able to rejoin you in the recovery area after you have awaken. Confirm your transportation arrangements with them. You cannot drive yourself home.
Day After Surgery Before leaving the Recovery Room, you will be given a Discharge Instruction Sheet with simple, written guidelines to continue your home care. If you have any questions or problems after discharge, please contact your doctor. A nurse from the Surgery Center will phone you within 24-48 hours after surgery to see how you are and to answer any questions you might have. We encourage you to complete the patient questionnaire given to you upon discharge after you have recovered from surgery. This will help us with your follow-up and to improve our service.
